Peter C. Witmer A.I.A. LEED AP

President/Principal of Witmer and Associates


Peter Witmer, a noted architect in Lake Forest, is a leader in the development of innovative architectural solutions, design standards, construction management methods, client values, and employee participation for a wide range of projects and collaborations.  It has been Peter’s goal to build a company that is well versed in the full range of architectural and design services to compete with the large sized firms while still offering the personal touch of a small boutique firm. His direct daily involvement in all phases of the project instills a level of trust, confidence and open communication channels with his clients. Peter’s employees share a vision for creative and budget-conscious designs without sacrificing individualized attention.  He specializes in challenging Renovation, Restoration, and Contextual infill projects for a variety of building types including commercial institutions, multi-family residences and single-family residences.  Witmer and Associates has won numerous awards for Historic Preservation projects.


Before establishing his own firm, Peter worked as an Associate Principal with the firm of O’Donnel, Wickland, Pigozzi and Peterson, a-300 person architectural firm based in Chicago.  During his tenure at the well-established firm, he was the Project Designer and Architect for various educational projects.  Noted projects credited to Peter include Lake Forest High School and Jewel Foods.


Peter served on the Executive Board of the Lake Forest Caucus.  His volunteer work is dedicated to their mission,  “Keep Lake Forest a Special Place”. Peter has also donated his time and expertise to the Lake Forest Senior Cottage where he oversaw the construction of the first Lake Forest affordable cottages for senior housing.  His firm was a steward for providing construction documents for the Senior Center’s Garage renovation at Grove School in Lake Forest.  Peter’s experience and reputation has been instrumental in assisting the City officials of Lake Forest with developing guidelines for the Bulk Ordinance and other Zoning issues. Peter has also been involved in various vision sessions for the commercial use at the Route 60 expansion and served as a consultant to the City on various Municipal Services and Site relocation. Peter currently is on the City of Lake Forest “Construction Codes Committee”.


Peter moved to Lake Forest in 1987 after graduating from the University of Cincinnati were he met his wife, Nina.    Peter and Nina Witmer have three children; their older son and daughter attend Deerpath Middle School and the youngest will be attending Sheridan Elementary. Peter is active in his children’s activities volunteering as a soccer coach and at numerous school functions.  The Witmer family resides and continues to remain active in the Lake Forest community.
